Questions

Straight answers.

What is OUTFISH?

OUTFISH is a fly-fishing intelligence service. It reads live river gauges, dam release schedules, water-temperature sensors and the weather for the waters you fish, and writes a plain-language briefing each morning: go or stay home, wade or float, when to be on the water, where to put in, what to tie on, with directions to the access.

Which rivers does OUTFISH cover?

Any water with an active USGS gauge, in all fifty states, can be added to your board. The registry ships with more than two hundred curated waters across the country — tailwaters like the Bighorn, the White River, the South Holston and the Green below Flaming Gorge; freestones like the Madison, the Deschutes, the Delaware and Penns Creek; the Smokies and the Catskills; warmwater rivers in the Ozarks, Texas and the Midwest — each with wade and float bands, hatches, access points and safety notes. Every one has a public page at out.fish/water.

How does OUTFISH know when a dam is generating?

It reads the operator's published release schedule — TVA, the Corps of Engineers, the Bureau of Reclamation and the utilities that run the dams — and the gauge below the dam. The gauge outranks the schedule for what is in the river now; the schedule owns the forecast. Rising water at a tailwater gauge is treated as the wade window closing, never as a positive.

What is in the daily briefing?

One call per day for your best water: the read on what the river is doing, the stretch and access with directions, the window, drive time from your home base, the target species and what is hatching, flow and temperature, the sky, a rig built from the gear you own, one field tip from the library cited to the show, the one thing that would change the call, a backup water, tomorrow's outlook, and why the other waters you track were passed over.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. Riverside is free: a conditions board for three rivers with live flow, temperature and weather, the top tips, and river pages with the gauge and map. Wade ($15/mo), Float ($25/mo) and Guide ($50/mo) add unlimited waters, the full tips library, trips and gear, briefings, GO alerts and The Guide. Every paid plan starts with seven days free.

What is The Guide?

The Guide is a conversational fly-fishing guide on the Guide plan. It answers with your live gauges, your gear cabinet, your fishing log, the water's dossier, today's weather and sunset, and the tips library, and it cites its sources. Ask it what to bring for two hours before dark on the river closest to you and it plans inside that window.
